Job Responsibilities:

*Job Summary and Purpose:

Reporting to the Foreman or Superintendent, builds, installs, maintains, tests, replaces and repairs railroad signaling and communications equipment. Troubleshooting is a large part of the job because you need to analyze, isolate and resolve malfunctions.

Job Responsibilities:

  1. Trenching, cable distribution, housing installation, assembly of signal equipment, pole line work.

  2. Inspect, test, repair or replace S&C systems, devices, equip. etc.

  3. Test relays and insulation resistance.

  4. May perform circuit wiring modifications.

  5. Maintain all reports and documentation as required.

  6. Test and verify the correct operation of S&C systems and equip.

  7. Investigate and locate problems or failures and take corrective action.

Job Qualifications:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.

  • Journeyman electrician qualifications or completion of 2/3 years electrical apprenticeship.

  • Experience installing communications systems.

  • Previous railway signals experience.

  • Ability to read and comprehend drawings and specifications.

  • Valid and clean Driver’s License.

  • Ability to pass background checks including pre-employment drug screening.

  • Requires excellent health and fitness.

  • Significant travel away from home.

  • Rotating shifts, overtime, weekends and some nights.

Physical/Travel/Attendance Requirements

  • Works outdoors at construction sites.

  • Performs physical activities that require considerable use of the arms and legs and moving the whole body, such as standing, climbing, lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, bending and handling of materials, equipment and tools.

  • Use hands and fingers to grasp, manipulate, and/or assemble objects and tools.

  • Lifts, pushes, pulls, and carries heavy objects, machinery and tools up to 50 pounds.

  • Exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.

  • Exposed to loud noise.

  • May be exposed to live track/trains and high voltage.

  • Must wear appropriate safety equipment, such as safety glasses, safety boots, hard hats, and hearing protection, as required by the company.
