Pay Range: $90000 - $115000 / year

Position Summary

The Project Engineer plans, develops, manages, and coordinates engineering activities for light rail construction projects.

Primary/Essential Responsibilities and Duties

• Plan, coordinate, oversee project engineering activities to ensure they comply with company and contract requirements and support overall construction schedule.

• Experience with Communications, Automatic Train Control (ATC), Traction Power Substations (TPSS), Overhead Catenary Systems (OCS) is ideal.

• Provide technical support for construction efforts including design interpretation, application of construction methods, resolution and documentation of design conflicts and constructability reviews.

• Liaise with engineering, contracts, accounting and construction to ensure effective communication and coordination of all project related matters.

• Assist in production and processing of project deliverables such as safety and QA/QC plans, test procedures, commissioning procedures and training procedures.

• Organize and ensure proper document and drawing distribution to staff and field personnel.

• Produce, manage and maintain project submittal logs.

• Ensure all documentation is properly logged and tracked in the project document control database.

• Produce correspondence such as letters, RFI’s, transmittals.

• Review change order drawings and specifications; develop, track and assist with negotiating proposals and change orders.

• Ensure labor tracking is coordinated and controlled between accounting and construction.

• Support the development, updating, and approval of construction schedules.

• Assist in preparation of bids, including assisting with take-offs, requests for pricing, project set up, quality control, design reviews and other related tasks.

• Review, analyze, and resolve field construction problems and discrepancies related to design.

• Advise Project Manager of schedule conflicts and problems, and work with field supervision to resolve schedule conflicts.

• Analyze permanent material requirements, maintain procurement log, and assist with preparation of formal purchase agreements.

• Support/assist with monitoring and forecasting of project costs and revenues; assist with development of new methods to improve costs.

• Attend meetings as required.

Required Skills and Qualifications

• A minimum of 5 years of technical engineering experience including a thorough knowledge of construction industry practices, methods, processes, and standards and their impact on project activities in a rail transit environment.

• Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Construction Management, or Project Management; an advanced degree is a plus (In lieu of a degree, extensive experience in the military, railroad/construction, or related field will be considered)

• Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions.

• Ability to read and comprehend plans and specifications, and to comprehend and recognize safety standards and issues.

• Knowledge of general contract and subcontract documents.

• Strong verbal and written communication skills and presentation skills.

• The ability to effectively interact with both customers and employees.

• The ability to work independently as well as operate successfully as part of a collaborative team.

• The ability to successfully execute decisions.

• The ability to grasp facts, processes, and procedures quickly in a rapidly changing environment.

• Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite, cost and schedule controls.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions

• Works indoors and outdoors at construction sites.

• Frequently stands, walks, climbs, balances, stoops, and crouches while negotiating work areas under construction.

• Sits, reads, writes, and uses a computer keyboard.

• May be exposed to harsh weather conditions including very hot and very cold weather.

• May be exposed to loud noise.
